Atal Tunnel Inaugration By Prime Minister Narendra Modi At Rohtang Pass

Recently, the Honorable Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi Inaugurate the world’s longest highway tunnel i.e. Atal tunnel at Rohtang Pass.

Basically, it is not the longest tunnel but in terms of height at which it is situated, it is indeed the longest tunnel in the world.

The tunnel is present at the height of 10,000 feet above sea level. It takes 10 years to construct this tunnel. Turkey is in favor of making this tunnel. The length of this tunnel is around 9.02 KM.

Details Of Atal Tunnel

The tunnel is named after the former late prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. The tunnel starts under the Rohtang Pass in the eastern Pir Panjal Range of the Himalayas. This tunnel will connect the Leh-Manali highway in Himachal Pradesh.

On 3rd October 2020, our honorable prime minister Shri Narendra Modi Inaugurate this tunnel. The total cost of this project is 3200 crore.

This mega project announces by prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee in the year 2000. Also, this project entrusted to the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) in the year 2002.

The foundation stone of this project laid at the time of the UPA government in the year 2010. At that time Sonia Gandhi was prime minister of India.

At that time the name of the tunnel was Rohtang Tunnel. But in 2019 the name of the tunnel changes to Atal Tunnel by the BJP government.

The tunnel consists of world-class facilities like air ventilation since it is at the height of 10,000 feet. The drainage facility to remove to the water. Telephone booths at every 200 meters. Also, CCTV cameras are fitted in the tunnel, and the width of the tunnel is quite good.

Operations Of The Tunnel

The engineers face many problems while building this tunnel such as waterlogging and others. This slows down this project but finally, the tunnel is now completed.

The whole operation was under the hands of the Border Roads Organisation. But many foreign companies involved in this mega project.

MNC companies like Siemens which provide the automation technology in the tunnel. It includes the illumination, lighting inside the tunnel.

Turkish companies also play a major role in the completion of the project. Savronik a well-known company that made electro-mechanical products fitted these components inside the tunnel.

Turkey is promoting the Atal tunnel all around the world as an example of Turkish Engineering. Turkey might think in the future they might get billions of projects in India. As there is a lot of construction that needs to be done in India.
